Workflow problem

Recover a lost Claude Code session

After closing a terminal or clearing context, you may need the earlier conversation and its decisions.

The problem

After closing a terminal or clearing context, you may need the earlier conversation and its decisions.

Native approach

Run `claude --resume` in the project to select a previous session, or `claude --continue` for the most recent one. `/clear` starts a new conversation while previous conversations remain available through resume.

Tools to consider

Saved memory and file plans help reconstruct decisions, but they do not restore an unsaved or deleted transcript.

FAQ

Does `/clear` delete old sessions?

No. Earlier conversations remain available through resume under normal retention.

Can a memory tool recreate missing messages exactly?

No. It can preserve selected context, not necessarily a full transcript.
